How
It Works:

5mm
Histofreezer Applicator @-55° C

|
|
Have
the patient expose the surface to be treated
upward. |

|
|
Attach
a Histofreezer® custom applicator bud to the
canister. |
 |
|
While
holding the canister in an upright position,
press down on the valve button until the cryogen
starts to drip from the bud. Saturation of
the bud requires approximately three to five
seconds. Then release finger from the valve.
(Excess spilled droplets will not harm clothes
or office furnishings.)
|
 |
|
Turn
the canister horizontally so that the applicator
bud is pointing downward and wait 10 to 15
seconds before applying to the lesion. This
will allow the bud to reach its effective
temperature.
|
 |
|
Apply
the frozen applicator bud to the lesion for
the recommended time as indicated by the lesion
type. |
BE
CERTAIN THE BUD REMAINS IN A VERTICAL POSITION DURING
TREATMENT. TREATMENT AT AN ANGLE OTHER THAN 90º
WILL REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE TREATMENT.
The
2mm bud will remain effective (-55ºC) for approximately
90 seconds and the 5mm bud for 120 seconds, allowing
you to treat multiple lesions on the same patient
with one properly saturated bud. To avoid cross-contamination,
do not treat two patients with the same disposable
applicator.
A
small ring of healthy tissue around the lesion should
also be frozen during the process. Freezing begins
within a few seconds and may appear as white discoloration
of the skin. The patient experiences a tingling/itching
feeling and sometimes a slight stinging sensation
if the region treated is rich in nerve endings.
Skin
will lose its white color a few minutes after the
bud has been removed. Erythema, the same size as
the frozen region, then appears. Blistering sometimes
occurs (possibly blood-filled) within a few days.
Schedule
the patient for a return visit in two weeks. This
will give the treated area time to slough and repair
itself prior to a re-treatment if necessary.
